Michigan football is working hard to secure its 2027 class, and after a torrid month of May, June is starting with something of a bang.
The Wolverines have done solid at working the Houston area as of late, with Andrew Marsh coming out of Katy (Tx.) Fulshear last year, and with South Houston (Tx.) defensive lineman Xavier Muhammad committed to this class. But another target sprung up somewhat surprisingly in recent days in Katy (Tx.) Tompkins four-star cornerback Blake Jenkins.
Jenkins had a final group of Michigan football, Alabama, Texas, Vanderbilt, and SMU. Ultimately, despite not much buzz surrounding him, the maize and blue won out, securing his commitment on Thursday night.
The pledge was announced by Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.
Jenkins is ranked a four-star and is rated highest by ESPN as the No. 198 player in the country. 247Sports also has the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder as a four-star at No. 230 overall. Rivals has him as a three-star.
Here is the full commitment list as it currently stands:
Here is the scouting report from 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks:
– Natural man corner with size and athleticism to match up with outside targets.- Willing tackler with a lean, wiry frame that can add mass to enhance finishing strength.- Attacks the screen game.- Displays sudden athleticism in press situations, whether covering short-to-intermediate routes or turning and running downfield.- Ideally would see more ball production, but capable of finding the ball in the deep third.- Frame, athleticism, and technique excel in press coverage, but room to improve awareness in off and zone situations.- Forward-playing conviction vs. perimeter run and screen games can periodically cause some less-than-ideal pursuit angles.- Live evaluations have been strong in multiple scenarios.- P4-caliber corner prospect who owns the potential to become an island technician.
Jenkins is the second cornerback commit in the class, joining fellow four-star Darius Johnson. The Wolverines are still targeting five-star Joshua Dobson, who is set to take his official visit next week.
