Michigan high school baseball teams have begun the first round of the MHSAA playoffs, with some teams already falling and going home in pre-district matchups. Now, heading into the busiest Saturday of the high school sports season, the true contenders will begin to separate themselves from the pretenders.
The final high school baseball rankings were released by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association on Thursday, May 28, setting the stage for Saturday’s matchups while delineating the top state title contenders after the regular season officially wrapped.
There was more movement at the bottom of the rankings than the top for each division; Escanaba made its debut at No. 20 in the Division 2 rankings, Springport came in at No. 20 in D3 and Ubly was No. 20 in D4. The top-ranked teams (Brother Rice, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, Traverse City St. Francis, Portland St. Patrick) all held their spots in the final release.
