COLDWATER—On Friday, the city unveiled seven paintings, a project from the Coldwater High School Art Honor Society, displayed on the side wall of attorney Ben Jewell.
The students from middle school to graduating high school seniors created panels for the wall.
Some created the paintings individually, others as group projects. The paintings on boards are now mounted to the wall in the alleyway between S. Monroe Street and the Tibbits Plaza parking lot.
Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Coldwater, Erin Vesey, developed the student project and presented the plan to Jewell.
Jewell said he was glad to participate.
His wife is Coldwater High Band Director Katie Jewell. He works with the band and many of the students in the annual school musical behind the scenes.
Rather than paint a permanent mural on the wall, Vesey said that panels allow the paintings to be rotated.
The Coldwater Country Conference and Visitors Bureau funded the entire project. Sherwin-Williams Paint donated additional supplies.
Three of the pictures related directly to the school and community.
Students honored Archie, the school’s therapy dog, for its impact on the school.
Five students, Lilly Thomas, Linden Elkins, Kaylie Walters, Morgan Baker, and Beverly Woods, created a picture of a student welding to honor a female Coldwater student in the Branch Area Career Center vocational program.
A two-panel picture by six students, Gracelyn West, Kaitlyn Coger, Ashlyn Caswell, Landon Baker, Lily Thomas, Carly Krazyanski, and Allie Miller, shows the bridge over the Sauk River in Waterworks Park.
