Brian Branch was scheduled to get an MRI on his injured foot after he was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 9, for the second straight day.
The Detroit Lions safety worked out on the side during individual drills at practice Wednesday and had a noticeable limp as he left the locker room Thursday.
One of the Lions’ most important defensive players, Branch ranks third on the team with 26 tackles and has a team-high five passes defended through five games. He made his first Pro Bowl last year.
The Lions are dealing with a slew of injuries in their secondary. Starting cornerbacks D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold are out indefinitely with hamstring and shoulder injuries, the team placed backup cornerback Khalil Dorsey on injured reserve this week and No. 3 safety Avonte Maddox showed up on the injury report Thursday with a hamstring injury.
Kerby Joseph, the Lions’ other starting safety, did not practice Thursday for the second straight day because of a knee injury he originally suffered in a Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns.
Wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown (wrist) and Kalif Raymond (neck) returned to practice Thursday, while left tackle Taylor Decker (shoulder), linebacker Zach Cunningham (hamstring) and running back Sione Vaki (groin) remained out of practice.
St. Brown said he was “feeling good” after practice and indicated he’d be fine for this week’s game with the Kansas City Chiefs.
“It’s been bugging me for a little but just a day to really rest, get my legs back under me,” he said. “But nothing to worry about.”
