Gas prices in Michigan jumped 20 cents since last week, averaging $4.15 a gallon, AAA-The Auto Club Group announced Monday.
That is 11 cents more than a month ago and 99 cents higher compared to the same time in 2025, officials said.
GasBuddy reported the national price Monday at $3.95, a 13-cent increase since last week. The price in Detroit is about $4.07 a gallon, according to the Dallas-based fuel tracker’s survey of 1,734 stations in the city.
Motorists in Michigan are paying an average of $62 for a full 15-gallon tank, AAA reported.
Trends driving the increase
“Average gasoline and diesel prices rose in nearly every state for the second straight week, with the national average price of gasoline likely to reach $4 per gallon within the next 48 hours and diesel already back above $5 per gallon nationally,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
“While the ongoing U.S.-Iran situation continues to weigh on markets, the story is increasingly less about crude oil and more about global refining capacity. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed while continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries further squeeze an already strained supply picture. With WTI crude approaching $85 per barrel in Sunday night trading, price-cycling markets are likely to see another jolt higher in the coming days, and motorists should brace for a rougher stretch ahead.”
The company reported the national average price of diesel dropped 22 cents compared to a week ago, to $5.08 per gallon.
GasBuddy said Detroit’s pump price is 2 cents lower than last month and 89 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Detroit was $3.47. The lowest in the state was also priced at $3.47, while the most expensive in the city and state reached $5.19.
Metro Detroit’s current average is $4.09 per gallon, AAA said. That is 12 cents more than last week and 89 cents above the same time in 2025.
Nearby, Ann Arbor’s average climbed 14 cents from last week to $4.12. Flint rose to $4.12, up 26 cents. In Ohio, Toledo’s average reached $3.90, which is up 5 cents.
“Motorists across Michigan are seeing higher prices at the pump, with the state average moving back above $4 a gallon,” said Adrienne Woodland, AAA’s spokesperson, in a release.
