Michigan’s primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 4 includes candidates for governor, senator, congressional representative and more. But for voters in Otsego County, they could also see several local proposals on their ballots.

Otsego County
Otsego County is asking voters to consider three millage proposals.
The first calls for a 0.40 mill increase in funding for the Otsego County Library. If approved, it is estimated the increase would raise around $725,619 in its first year.
The ballot language reads: “Shall the previously authorized tax limitation in Otsego County, Michigan, be increased by 0.40 mills ($0.40 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of six years, 2027 through 2032 inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds to operate and maintain the Otsego County Library, including employing individuals to carry out the functions of the county library, and providing library services, materials, programs, technology, facilities and related services?”
The second item is for a parks and recreation millage renewal. The funding would go towards the operation and maintenance of parks, park facilities and park programming run by the Otsego County Parks and Recreation Commission. If approved, the millage is expected to generate around $453,512 in its first year.
The ballot language reads: “Shall the County of Otsego be authorized to renew the previously authorized millage of up to 0.25 mills ($0.25 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of four years, 2027 through 2030 inclusive, to provide funds for the operation and maintenance of all programs, parks and facilities including, but not limited to, the Community Center, under the jurisdiction of the Otsego County Parks and Recreation Commission within Otsego County, Michigan?
The final item asks for a renewal of a millage that funds the Otsego County Recycling Drop-Off Program and associated programming. If approved, the millage would result in an estimated $634,917 in its first year.
The ballot language reads: “Shall the County of Otsego be authorized to renew the previously authorized millage for recycling purposes of up to 0.35 mills ($0.35 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of four years, 2027 through 2030 inclusive, to provide funds for the operation and maintenance of the Otsego County Recycling Drop-Off Program and recycling education, including all costs associated with the operation and maintenance of the county-wide recycling program within Otsego County, Michigan?
