Social media users share images, video of storm damage in Fox Cities

Social media users flocked to post images and videos after a tornado and thunderstorm slammed into Menasha on Monday, July 27. The storms also caused damage in Appleton, Neenah and others communities along Lake Winnebago.

The National Weather Service sent a damage assessment team to gauge the tornado’s path, size and speed Monday afternoon. A meteorologist said the team should have details confirmed by Tuesday, July 28.

Based on social media posts, the damage in Menasha, Appleton, Neenah and other Fox Cities communities is significant, with dozens of homes and other buildings damaged or demolished.

Here’s some of the early looks at the storm damage posted on social media.

Watch the storm come in on freeway cameras

A live cam scanner that goes by @LiveCamChaser on X, formerly Twitter, captured the storm as it arrived in Neenah around noon, just as the National Weather Service issued the first tornado warning.

Tornado rips trees off Davis Point in Neenah

Online meteorologist @Simcoe12_Wx on X posted a side-by-side of a Neenah neighborhood that was ripped apart by the storms.

The first photo taken at 6 a.m. shows a relatively normal outlook towards Davis Point from Neenah Recreation Park. The second photo shows a 12:40 p.m. update with nearly every tree on Davis Point significantly damaged or destroyed.

Early damage outlook for Menasha neighborhood

On the r/wisconsin subreddit, user knowitokay posted a video from a vehicle driving down a neighborhood street in Menasha on the north shore of Lake Winnebago.

Several homes appear to have been totally demolished with others still standing showing destroyed roofs and walls. Other users reported one of the buildings could have been Manderfield’s Home Bakery, a bakery with locations in Appleton and Menasha.

Sports broadcaster @matt_peckwi on X reposted a photo that showed heavy damage to the Nathan Calder Stadium in Menasha.

Drone video shows more damage in Menasha

Drone video from @StormChaser_CJ and @MaxVelocityWX on X show a roof caved in on a large commercial building in Menasha. In the background, trees across the neighborhood can be seen fallen and ripped out of the ground.
