A 36-year-old man was killed in a shooting outside an apartment in a Northeast El Paso neighborhood, police said as the suspect remained at large.
The shooting occurred shortly before 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, in the 3600 block of Fred Wilson Avenue near Dyer Street in the Logan Heights neighborhood, El Paso Police Department spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo said in a news briefing at the scene.
There had been no arrests and the identity of any potential suspect had not been disclosed as a homicide investigation by detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit continued late Wednesday night.
Shortly after the shooting, a medical helicopter could be seen flying over the neighborhood before it transported the shooting victim to a hospital as patrol cars drove around searching nearby streets.
Late into the night, the scene was illuminated by red-and-blue flashing lights as police blocked Fred Wilson Avenue between Stevens and Russell streets near the entrance to the El Paso Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the old site of William Beaumont Army Medical Center.
The EPPD mobile command vehicle arrived at the scene and Military Police could also be seen rolling through the area, since it is next to Fort Bliss property.
