SPRINGFIELD, IL – More than $10,000 has been raised for a golf scholarship that will honor a late golf course superintendent of the Springfield Park District.
Dan Crumrine, a 28-year employee of the park district, died while working under a mower at Lincoln Greens Golf Course on March 26. He oversaw the district’s four golf courses.
An Aug. 9 golf outing will raise money for the newly created scholarship that is called the Dan Crumrine Memorial Golf Scholarship.
Here’s what to know about the scholarship and the outing.
The scholarship
The scholarship is being created by Dan’s wife and son, Carrie and Issac.
They have not decided on an amount yet for the scholarship, but they have an idea of who will benefit from it.
“We want it to go to kids or students who are either going into the golf industry or play high school golf or give back to the game of golf in some way,” Isaac Crumrine said. “And just kind of keep investing in the game that my dad cared so deeply about.”
At the time of Crumrine’s funeral, the funeral home offered to facilitate donations to a charity, but the family instead decided to create a more personal option that would give back to the Springfield community.
“There’s a lot of kids that are interested in golf and playing high school golf, and so my son and I just kind of decided that we were going to give back to the community in the same way that would honor his dad’s legacy,” Carrie Crumrine said.
The golf outing
The Aug. 9 outing at Lincoln Greens has a 7 a.m. Morning Shotgun Start and a 1 p.m. Afternoon Shotgun Start.
More than 20 groups have signed up and there is room for about 30 more groups of four.

How to donate
People who do not wish to golf but want to donate can do so through the QR code in the flyer. Checks are being accepted at Lincoln Greens. They can be made out to Dan Crumrine Memorial Golf Scholarship.
