Sam Darnold came up big for the Seattle Seahawks last season. Even though the Seahawks’ defense gets a lot of credit for last season’s dominance, the Seahawks would not have won the Super Bowl if it weren’t for Darnold’s play against the Rams in the NFC Championship Game and other big games during the season. Darnold put together two straight elite quarterback seasons, and he showed that he is a top quarterback in the NFL.
In a recent article, Jeremy Fowler takes a look at how many in the league view Super Bowl champion quarterback Sam Darnold. Here is what people across the league had to say on Darnold:
“What a career bounce-back. He’s been lights-out for two years. Deserves to be in the top 10.” — High-ranking AFC team official.”
“Playing to his strengths while playing disciplined, can beat you with his arm. I think he can use his legs more. He’s mobile.” — NFL personnel evaluator.”
Fowler’s collection of votes from various NFL insiders put Darnold outside the top 10. We know he’s a top-10 quarterback, obviously better than Drake Maye, who got schooled by the Seahawks in the Super Bowl, but lots of NFL people still aren’t convinced.
Although there may be more quarterbacks who are more talented than Sam Darnold, he still deserves a top ten position. A two-year sample size and a championship ring should be enough to kill all the previous narratives placed on Darnold. This season, however, will prove whether this version of Sam Darnold is here to stay, because Klint Kubiak left for Vegas. Darnold needs to continue thriving with a new offensive coordinator. With the connection he built with Jaxon Smith-Njigba, confidence should be at an all-time high for Darnold.
