Ontario County residents warned of sheriff scam calls

Ontario County residents may be the target of a new scam.

Residents have reported receiving scam calls from a person claiming to be the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, requesting various payment methods to pay a family member’s bail, according to OCSO.

The sheriff’s office stated that OCSO, the Ontario County Court or any court will never ask or demand payment from residents over the phone.

If you receive a phone call asking for payment like this, OCSO said to immediately hang up and call the sheriff’s office directly at (585)-394-4560. Do not make any payments over the phone.
