A shooting in southeastern Iowa on Monday, July 13, left four people injured, including a 17-year-old who is in custody in connection with the shooting.
Appanoose County deputies were dispatched to a home in Moulton, a small town near the Missouri border, at 2:27 p.m. on Monday, where they found three people had been shot, said Appanoose County Sheriff Gary Anderson.
While responding to the shooting, law enforcement officers found the suspected shooter a few blocks away from the home. The 17-year-old suspect, believed to be a resident of the home, was taken into custody before being airlifted to an Iowa City hospital for injuries not caused by gunfire.
Two of the other victims were airlifted to a Des Moines hospital while the third was taken to a hospital in Centerville for “serious and critical injuries” but non-life-threatening, according to Anderson. There is no ongoing threat to the community.
“It appears to be a domestic situation among family members,” Anderson said. “There were nine people in the home at the time of the shooting — five adults and four people under the age of 18.”
The shooting is under investigation by state and local authorities.
