Garrett Wilson should enter camp with his best WR supporting cast ever

For much of his NFL career, Garrett Wilson has lived with an expectation shared by few wide receivers. Beat double coverage. Win against the opposing defense’s top cornerback. Produce explosive plays despite being the obvious focal point of the New York Jets’ passing game.

Wilson has embraced that challenge, but no receiver should have to carry an offense alone. The Jets are hoping he won’t have to anymore.

As training camp approaches, the conversation surrounding New York’s receiving corps has continued to be the same as usual, but this time it appears there is genuine hope a positive solution will be found.

Wilson remains the unquestioned centerpiece of New York’s passing attack. That isn’t changing. What may change is the talent surrounding him. This may be the best supporting cast that he has had as part of the wide receiver corps.

Adonai Mitchell enters the season with an opportunity to establish himself as a legitimate complementary receiver capable of stretching defenses vertically. First-round rookie Omar Cooper Jr. brings another intriguing skill set to the offense, while another Round 1 tight end Kenyon Sadiq has the athletic ability to become another reliable target over the middle of the field.

The depth doesn’t end there.

Isaiah Williams continues pushing for a larger offensive role after earning the trust of the coaching staff on special teams and veterans throughout the roster give offensive coordinator Frank Reich greater flexibility than the Jets have enjoyed in recent years.

None of those players must become stars overnight. The Jets simply need enough consistent production to make defenses think twice before rolling coverage toward Wilson every Sunday.

Better balance could unlock the entire offense

The NFL’s best passing attacks rarely rely on one receiver. They force defenses to make difficult choices. Do they double Wilson, and someone else wins a favorable matchup?

Should they play him with a one-on-one strategy? Wilson reminds everyone why he’s one of the league’s premier receivers. That’s the balance New York has been chasing, and they have made strides. The Jets have spent the past two offseasons reshaping their offense, adding veterans, investing in young playmakers and creating legitimate competition throughout the receiving room.

Now comes the most important step: watching those additions develop into dependable contributors. Wilson doesn’t need another Pro Bowl receiver lining up opposite him (even though no one will complain if the Jets find one). He just needs defenses to stop believing they can ignore everyone else.

Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 offseason.
