Former Bradford County DA completes sentence, released from prison

Former Bradford County District Attorney Chad Salsman, who was convicted after an investigation into allegations of sexual assault, indecent assault, witness intimidation and other charges, has been released from state prison after completing his sentence.

Salsman was elected in 2019 to replace retiring DA Daniel Barrett, and took office in January 2020, but in early 2021, then-Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced Salsman was being charged with multiple felonies after a lengthy investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.

The charges stemmed from complaints filed by former female clients from when he was in private law practice.

Salsman ultimately resigned and pleaded guilty to promoting prostitution and obstruction of justice. He was sentenced in July 2021 in Bradford County Court to 1½ to 5 years in state prison, followed by 72 months of supervised release.

Salsman was released on parole in February 2024, but the Parole Board rescinded that decision only a few months later after additional information about his case came to light. He was granted parole again in April 2025 and released from the State Correctional Institution at Mercer.

Salsman was returned to state custody Nov. 12, 2025 after he was accused of violating two conditions of his parole, including a prohibition against possessing any firearm or other weapons, and a prohibition against possessing, viewing or listening to any obscene materials that describe sexual conduct.

Salsman served out the remainder of his sentence at the State Correctional Institution at Coal Township and was released July 9, according to Maria Bivens, press secretary for the state Department of Corrections.

Salsman, who was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 2001, was also disbarred by the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania following his conviction. He remains disbarred at this time.
