A man who died July 7 after a shooting during the Fourth of July holiday weekend was identified as Lawrence Harris Jr., 28, of Fort Pierce, according to Fort Pierce Police.
The shooting happened about 3:45 a.m. July 5 in the 300 block of South 14th Street, according to a Fort Pierce police incident report summary.
Officers found two people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, according to the report. A woman sustained a non-life-threatening injury to her hand, and a man with multiple gunshot wounds was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Officers learned the two people who’d been shot were involved in an earlier altercation at a Waffle House in the 5800 block of Okeechobee Road before they returned home, police Maj. Michael Santiago told TCPalm.
As they arrived home, a man believed to have been involved in the altercation approached and opened fire before he ran from the area, according to the report.
The injured man was intubated and surviving on a ventilator on the morning of July 7, Santiago said, but he died by the afternoon. Santiago on July 13 identified the deceased as Harris Jr.
No arrests have been made in the case, though the incident remains under investigation, Santiago said.
The woman who sustained a gunshot wound to the hand was treated and released from a hospital.
