Texas A&M’s 2026 season is less than three months away, and under third-year coach Mike Elko, the Aggies are coming off their first appearance in the College Football Playoff, while a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, accomplishing two significant goals during his second season at the helm. Entering Year 3, Elko and his revamped roster are focused on getting back to the CFP.
After reaching 11-0 for the first time since the 1993 season, starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who threw for a career-high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns during his first full starting season, struggled in both losses to Texas and Miami in the first round of the CFP, and will be one of the primary reasons they Aggies’ match their 2025 success, or struggle to reach double-digit victories.
Adding 17 additions from the transfer portal, combined with 26 incoming freshmen, 65% of the 2025 roster has returned, and while the Aggies will take on a tough SEC schedule that includes road games against LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Alabama, and Oklahoma, Texas A&M’s chanced of returning to the CFP remain high, who you can be sure the pressure will mount if Elko and his staff fail to make the necessary adjustments if any unit struggles.
On Wednesday, SEC Unifiltered released its best and worst case scenarios for Texas A&M this season, believing that a 10-2 finish is the best possible record the Aggies can accomplish, while 7-5, which would be an utter disaster, and the absolute worst case scenario based on the talent-level at every, and I mean every position.
It’s nationally known that if Marcel Reed takes the “next step” as a pocket passer, starting with eliminating “mental mistakes” that were evident in both losses last season, while Texas A&M’s deep secondary and revamped defensive line, which now includes Northwestern transfer edge Anto Saka, needs to match last season’s production.
