Back-to-school shopping in Palm Beach County
Christmas might be a ways off, but back-to-school preparations are right around the corner.
The state’s back-to-school sales tax holiday runs from Monday, July 20, through Thursday, Aug. 20. There is no sales tax on items like clothes, shoes and backpacks that cost less than $100. Other school supplies that cost less than $50 are also tax-free, and electronic items that cost up to $1,500 are tax-free as well.
Individuals and groups often hold back-to-school drives and giveaways in advance of the new school year.
For the second year in a row, the personal injury law firm GoldLaw plans to give away 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to elementary, middle and high school students during an event scheduled to held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on July 18 at the Student Life Center at Keiser University in West Palm Beach.
The firm said each backpack will be filled with color pencils, notebooks, pencil kits, a sharpener, an eraser, a ruler and a pouch.
Event entertainment will include interactive games, an airbrush artist, face painting and a chance to win giveaways.
