A passenger was seriously injured after being thrown from the bed of a pickup truck on Lakeshore Drive in Canandaigua over the Independence Day weekend, according to police.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, July 5, on Lakeshore Drive in Canandaigua, according to the Canandaigua Police Department.
Police said the driver of a pickup truck made a K-turn on Lakeshore Drive and then “accelerated at a high rate of speed,” causing a 25-year-old passenger riding in the truck bed to be thrown from the vehicle, Canandaigua Police Chief Mathew Nielsen said.
The passenger, whose name was not released, suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where police said Wednesday that he remained in guarded condition.
Pickup truck fled scene
The pickup truck involved in the incident fled the scene after the crash but was later identified by police.
Authorities have not announced any charges related to the incident.
Investigation continues
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
