A St. Clair County man faces multiple criminal charges after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend over several days and then trying to flee police on a golf cart, according to Michigan State Police
The Allenton man was arraigned Monday in 72nd District Court on charges of felonious assault, interfering with electronic communications, reckless use of a firearm, malicious destruction of property and obstruction of justice.
At approximately 11 a.m. Sunday, July 5, police were dispatched for a reported domestic assault in the 1200 block of Holmes Road in Berlin Township, about 50 miles north of Detroit.
A 27-year-old man had been “beating and strangling his girlfriend for the last several days and shot her phone with a pistol to keep her from calling 911.”
When troopers arrived at the scene, the man fled on a golf cart, but was “eventually taken into custody nearby.”
