More than 35k still without power, mostly in southeast Michigan

Power has been restored to more than 62,000 Michigan electric customers since Monday, July 6, after strong thunderstorms struck southern Michigan Friday afternoon, but more than 35,000 customers across the state remain without power.

On Friday, July 6, storms knocked out power to more than 380,000 electric customers in Michigan, most south of interstates 96 and 69 in southern Michigan.

As of 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 7, 35,000 customers still were without power in Michigan. More than 95,000 customers were without on Monday morning.

Most of those in Michigan without power — 29,900— are DTE customers.

The cluster consisted of 19,000 customers, mostly located in Wayne County, who remained without power on Tuesday, down from 51,000 the day before. Monroe County, also in southeast Michigan, had 3,650 customers without power while Oakland County, had 3,339 without service.

As of 9:30 a.m., about 4,839 Consumers customers remained without power.

Friday afternoon and evening a series of thunderstorms moved across Michigan at about 45 mph. The storms brought wind gusts of up to 79 mph and spawned one tornado warning in Ingham County.
