COLDWATER, MI. — A 21-year-old Coldwater man was killed Monday evening in a stabbing at Clemens Food Group, police said.
Emergency crews were dispatched to Clemens Food Group on Newton Road at about 7:41 p.m. on June 29, 2026, for a reported stabbing.
Authorities identified the victim as Brandon Eduardo Velasquez Chavez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the suspect, a 20-year-old co-worker, was taken into custody and his name is being withheld pending arraignment.
The man was booked into the Branch County Jail at 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, on a charge of “Willful killing of a non-family member.”
According to investigators, Chavez and the suspect were involved in a verbal dispute while working near each other.
The confrontation escalated, and the suspect allegedly stabbed Chavez in the back.
Branch County Sheriff’s deputies were first on scene and detained the suspect, while paramedics and firefighters attempted life-saving measures.
The case remains under investigation.
The Branch County Prosecutor will review requests for charges, and the suspect could be arraigned later on Tuesday.
