A 30-year-old Rome man was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday in Oneida County, according to New York State Police.
Here’s what we know.
Motorcycle collides with pickup
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of State Route 365 and Blackmans Corners Road in the town of Verona, state police said.
Investigators said a pickup truck driven by a 66-year-old Oneida County man was attempting to cross Route 365 after stopping at Blackmans Corners Road when it was struck by a westbound motorcycle traveling in the passing lane.
Motorcyclist identified
The motorcyclist, Vincent P. Grasso, 30, of Rome, died at the scene, state police said Monday.
The pickup driver was not injured.
Harley-Davidson of Utica, where Grasso worked, remembered him in a social media tribute as a “kind, generous and thoughtful person” who lit up every room.
The dealership described him as a best friend, a role model, “your biggest cheerleader” and “someone you could count on through thick and thin.”
“There has never been and never will be another person like Vinny Grasso.”
According to the dealership, hundreds of family members, friends and supporters gathered outside its Utica location Sunday to honor Grasso’s memory with fireworks and a lantern release.
Investigation continues
State police continue to investigate the fatal crash.
