NBA insider Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports recently revealed that the Golden State Warriors are aiming to acquire Anthony Davis from the Washington Wizards in hopes of luring LeBron James to the Bay Area in free agency for the mid-level exception.
Although this idea has been floated around before, it was unknown whether or not a deal for Davis would be realistic. However, if Golden State were to acquire the former NBA champion, it would give James a lot to think about, as the two are known to have a strong relationship. Considering this in addition to James’ relationships with Draymond Green and Stephen Curry, which have come a long way since their battles in the NBA Finals, the proposition may be difficult for James to decline. Lastly, the 22-time All-Star will know what to expect from Golden State’s coaching staff, having played under head coach Steve Kerr as a member of Team USA.
If the Warriors were to land Davis, they’d almost certainly have to part ways with Jimmy Butler, who recently expressed his desire to retire with the franchise.
