Gibsonburg Homecoming sees 70 race in Donut Mile

The Gibsonburg Homecoming Festival was held June 24-27. Despite a couple hurdles, including rain and the company supplying rides canceling, the festival endured.

People turned out for the Donut Mile run, Beer Mile run, pie-eating contest and other activities, according to Josie Hickman, a member of the Gibsonburg Community Corporation.

The community corporation co-sponsors the annual festival, along with the Gibsonburg Volunteer Fire Department, which had its members busy cooking food during the week.

Hickman said the committee added five bounce houses, a mini-golf course and laser tag to amuse festivalgoers this year.

Festival ran June 24-27

The festival ran Wednesday through Saturday. On June 27, a car show, parade and fireworks wrapped up the week. The grand marshal for the parade was Beth Kohler.

The winners of the Donut Run were Xander Zimmerman, of Gibsonburg, in the men’s category and Danielle Chrulski, also of Gibsonburg, in the women’s.

In the pie-eating contest, Tom Nieset of Helena took first place. Second went to Maggie Beeker and third to Connie Fry, both of whom are from Gibsonburg.

The week opened with an annual sprint car parade, which included almost three dozen sprint Cars. There was also a pit crew contest to see who could jack up a car, make fixes and change a tire the fastest.
