Lost child hikers reunited with family in Adirondacks

Two children who became separated from their hiking group in the Adirondacks were found safe less than an hour after New York Forest Rangers began searching.

Forest Rangers responded to the Marcy Dam Truck Trail in the town of North Elba around 10 a.m. June 21 after receiving a report that a 9-year-old and an 11-year-old had become separated from their hiking group about an hour earlier, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Five Forest Rangers and one assistant Forest Ranger responded to the search. Rangers stationed at the nearby Marcy Dam Outpost began searching area trails.

At 10:40 a.m., crews located both children and reunited them with their family at the trailhead, the DEC said.

The agency did not release additional details about how the children became separated or how far they had traveled from the rest of the group.
