I-77 to be closed at night starting Friday for work on US 224 bridge

Starting tonight, June 26, and continuing through Friday morning, July 3, the following closures will occur nightly on Interstate 77 in Akron and Coventry Township between 10 p.m. and 5 p.m., the Ohio Department of Transportation said.

• I-77 northbound under Interstate 277/U.S. Route 224. The detour will be I-77 northbound to U.S. 224 east to Kelly Avenue to U.S. 224 west to I-77 north.

• I-77 southbound under I-277/U.S. 224. The detour will be I-77 south to I-277/U.S. 224 west to Main Street to I-277/U.S. 224 east to I-77 south.

This work involves removal of the U.S. 224 bridge deck.

I-277/U.S. 224 over I-77 will continue to be reduced to one lane in each direction for bridge repairs. The estimated completion of the bridge work will be June 2028.
