The Peoria Fire Department has named a decade-long veteran of its prevention bureau to be the new chief of prevention.
Josh Harris, who has served in the department’s prevention bureau for the past 10 years as a fire investigator, was named the new division chief of prevention Friday, according to a news release from Peoria fire chief Shawn Sollberger. Harris replaces the retiring Nate Rice.
Sollberger said the new chief brings forth knowledge and experience to the job, not to mention leadership and a commitment to safety.
“His work ethic, professionalism, and forward-thinking approach make him the ideal person to lead the bureau as we continue advancing our prevention and community risk reduction initiatives,” Sollberger said.
The prevention division is one of four divisions that comprise the Peoria Fire Department, focusing on enforcing codes, investigating fires and handling hazardous materials.
Harris’ promotion meant some shuffling within the department, with Ryan Brady, a captain paramedic, being named to Harris’ prior role as a fire investigator.
