Things to do for Fourth of July in the Wichita Falls area

This Fourth of July marks the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, which will be noted in several area celebrations.

The city of Wichita Falls and Sheppard Air Force Base will again host Fourth in the Falls Freedom Fest beginning at 5 p.m. on the grounds of the Multi-Purpose Events Center.

City spokesman Chris Horgen said celebrating 250 years will be the theme of the event, along with a possible surprise.

The event is free and will include live music, food trucks, a classic car show and fireworks at dark.

Other observances in the area include:

Burkburnett  

An Independence Day event begins at 4:30 p.m. at 705 Davy Road. It will include live music, food vendors, a kids area and a fireworks show at dark.

Electra

The city’s Independence Day celebration is held at Electra Memorial hospital on Saturday. Features kids events, food and fireworks at dark.

Iowa Park

The town’s Independence Day event will be throughout the day on Saturday, including the Pigpen Mud Volleyball Tournament in Oscar Park and a fireworks display at Lake Gordon in the evening.

Nocona

The Lion’s Club of Nocona annual Lake Nocona Flotilla will begin at 6:30 p.m. July 4 at Weldon Robb/Jaycee Park. A fireworks show begins at dusk.

Possum Kingdom Lake

The Hell’s Gate Fireworks Show will be hosted by the Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce and begins at dark July 4. Visitors may watch from the shoreline or boat. Viewing from YMCA Camp Grady Spruce is $10 per person.

Seymour

Celebration begins at 7 p.m. July 4 at the Salt Fork Recreational Complex, featuring live music, free hot dogs and fireworks beginning at dark.

Vernon

The town’s observance will be on July 3 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Rodeo Grounds. Admission is free, and events include a bounce house, live music, food and drink vendors and a fireworks show at dark.
