Bloomington South shutout by Lake Central in IHSAA 4A title game | Instant recap

It was a tough ending to a tremendous season for Bloomington South baseball, falling 4-0 to Lake Central in the IHSAA Class 4A state championship game Saturday, June 20, at Victory Field in Indianapolis.

Indians sophomore Owen Kopercinski was brilliant, pitching a complete game, striking out seven while surrendering just three hits and two walks. He did not allow a base runner in the second, third, fourth or seventh innings.

South’s best chances to score came in the first and fifth innings when they put two runners on. Both of those chances came with two outs, though, with Kopercinski being able to get soft groundouts to end each threat.

LC led two batters into the bottom of the first. Keegan O’Bryan tripled, and Parker Robinson singled to bring him home. They added another run in the frame, then solo additions in the fifth and sixth.

Lake Central won 4A titles in 2012 and 2024. Bloomington’s lone title came before it was even South high school, as it was just one Bloomington in 1972.

The Indians tack on another run with an RBI single from Parker Robinson.
