Emergency crews continued searching Friday night for a missing person after a boat capsized on Java Lake in Wyoming County, authorities said.
Boat capsized Friday evening
The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office said 911 dispatchers received a call at 6:50 p.m. Friday reporting a capsized boat on Java Lake in the Town of Java.
Two people were reported to have entered the water when the boat overturned. One occupant was accounted for, but the second remained missing as of 11 p.m., according to authorities.
Multiple agencies assist in search
The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and leading search efforts.
Assisting agencies include the New York State Police, New York State Police Aviation Unit, North Java Fire Department, Wyoming County Office of Emergency Management, Mercy Flight and Arcade Fire Department.
Public asked to avoid area
Search operations remained ongoing Friday night.
Officials are asking members of the public to avoid the area to allow emergency responders to conduct search efforts safely and efficiently.
The identity of the missing person has not been released. Authorities said additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
