First it was torrential rain, now prepare for sweltering heat.
The National Weather Service in Mobile, Alabama, has issued a heat advisory until 6 p.m. for Southeast Alabama and Northwest Florida.
The region may experience heat index values up to around 108 degrees, and the . hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
The heat advisory is just one new wrinkle in a week that has already seen plenty of extreme weather.
The region is also on flood watch until 6 p.m. this evening due to sustained rainfall this week.
According to the Weather Service, another round of storms are likely to develop today resulting in a continued threat of flash flooding, especially as soils are very saturated. Widespread 1-2 inches with locally higher amounts of 2-4 inches are expected.
