There were several standout individual performances across Southwestern Indiana this past week. Who gets your vote?
Darret Branson of Mater Dei was voted the Courier & Press Athlete of the Week for June 8-13, presented by Orthopaedic Associates. The sophomore had eight strikeouts and no runs registered to him across five innings of relief in two semi-state victories, including an extra-inning battle with Sullivan.
Mater Dei faces Bluffton in the Class 2A state championship on Saturday. Branson received 19,110 votes from over 36,000 cast. Northeast Dubois’ Eli Schroering was the runner-up at 9,850.

AJ Baggett, North baseball: The junior didn’t allow an earned run and struck out eight in six innings of two semi-state games, plus drove in the go-ahead run against No. 1 Center Grove.
Darret Branson, Mater Dei baseball: The sophomore pitched five innings in relief with eight strikeouts and no runs attributed across two semi-state victories, including a nine-inning win against Sullivan, for the Wildcats.
Grayson Coughlin, Memorial golf: The senior shot a 2-under 70 at Country Oaks to help the Tigers shoot a season-best 299 and earn a spot in the IHSAA state finals.
Breann Harris, Tecumseh softball: The junior was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored in a 7-2 state championship victory over Western Boone.
Haley Huff/Charley Paurazas, Barr-Reeve softball: The pitching duo combined for 12 strikeouts and only six hits allowed in a 6-0 state championship victory over South Central.
Brayden Lamborne, Castle golf: The senior shot a 3-under par 69 to earn individual medalist honors in the regional at Country Oaks.
Mason Mills, Boonville golf: The senior shot a 2-under 70 at Country Oaks to earn one of three individual advancing spots to the IHSAA state championship.
Hank Schreiber, North golf: The sophomore shot a 1-under 71 at Country Oaks to earn one of three individual advancing spots to the IHSAA state championship.
Eli Schroering, Northeast Dubois baseball: The junior pitched a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in the semi-state championship victory over Hauser and had four RBIs across two games.
