Analyst names the best and worst jerseys in Rams history

The Los Angeles Rams’ uniform history spans nearly a century and several relocations, and that gives plenty of material to work with for uniform rankings. The Athletic’s Rich Hammond recently took on that exercise, breaking down the best and worst looks from the Rams’ storied history, and his picks highlight two very different eras of the franchise.

For the best, Hammond went with the home throwbacks worn from 1973-1999.

Rams fans often join one of two camps: the one that prefers this jersey set and the one that prefers the blue-and-white look of the 1960s and 1970s. Both are clean and classic, but it’s no coincidence that when the Rams go with a “throwback” look, generally it’s this one. There’s just something about this combination of blue and yellow hues that pops, and it looks even better in person.

On the other end, Hammond singled out the mismatched home look from 2017, the team’s first full season back in Los Angeles before its official rebrand.

The Rams were a little stuck after their relocation from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2016. They planned to do a full rebrand, but not until they moved into their new stadium. So, for a couple of years, they gave off “last clean clothes on laundry day” vibes, as they retained their old St. Louis jerseys but tried to incorporate some old-school L.A. flavor with white horns on the helmet.

This comes after the Rams unveiled their latest uniform refresh for 2026. The update removed the chest tag, gradient numbers and pant stripes in favor of a cleaner, solid finish, added a white pants option and retired the “Bone” alternate altogether.

The refreshed logos lean further into the franchise’s 1970s blue-and-yellow roots, with a bolder Ram head and a full horn motif now featured on the sleeves of both primary jerseys. Fan reaction has been mixed, though most have called the changes subtle rather than drastic. Two additional alternate uniforms are expected to be revealed later this summer.
