Firefighters stopped spread on a 2-acre brush fire on Thursday morning, burning in west Whitmore.
The Buggy Fire started after 10 a.m. in dry grass and other vegetation near the corner of Buggy Lane and Whitmore Road.
The fire burned through very dry open area after more than a week of triple-digit heat. The area is roughly 17 miles east of Redding, 13 miles east of Palo Cedro.
It spread slowly at first, then gained speed, according to Watch Duty fire tracker.
The fire threatened one structure, Watch Duty reported, but didn’t say if the building was a home or business.
Crews requested more engines and an air attack with two tankers at 11:08 a.m. as the fire continued to spread at a moderate speed, Watch Duty said. Firefighters present at the fire got it under control 10 minutes later.
Winds were calm in the area on Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service, helping crews stop the fire’s progress.
