Aldi mac & cheese recall underway. Why you should check for product

Michigan Aldi shoppers should check for Park St. branded mac & cheese meals after more than 58,000 cases were recalled nationwide because of an undeclared allergen.

Aldi recalled 58,405 cases (nine meals per case) of its Park St. Deli Macaroni & Cheese, an Aldi Original, fully-cooked meals because they may contain soy lecithin, a food additive derived from soybeans found in many foods such as ice cream, bread, margarine and more, according to Healthline.

On Wednesday, June 10, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified the macaroni as a class II recall, meaning, “exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

The recall was initiated by the maker of the macaroni, BEF Foods Inc. in March. There have been no official reports of adverse health impacts from the macaroni.

“After we received notification of a voluntary recall of Park St. Deli Refrigerated Macaroni & Cheese in March, we moved quickly to immediately remove the affected product from store shelves at that time,” Aldi said in a statement provided to USA TODAY.

For those who purchased a recalled case of macaroni, Aldi will offer a full refund with proof of purchase or return the product to the store, according to USA TODAY.
