Ethan Pritchard walks for the first time since life-threatening injury

Florida State linebacker Ethan Pritchard was the first commitment for the program in the 2025 recruiting cycle when he pledged on October 22 of 2023. He was a three-star prospect out of high school who was loaded with potential.

Things took a turn for the worse last summer. As Pritchard was set to begin his freshman season, he was struck in the head on Aug. 31 of last year during a drive-by shooting while taking multiple family members home after a cookout. He would spend over a month in intensive care, and a long road to recovery followed.

After spending months at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and Brooks Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville, he was released last November. With the assistance of a walker, Pritchard was able to move around and also be with the football program. In fact, he led the team on the field during their Legacy Walk before playing the Virginia Tech Hokies last season.

Pritchard celebrated his 19th birthday recently. However, something happened that tugs on the heartstrings. Montrail T. Harris posted a video on Facebook of Pritchard walking for the first time without any assistance since the shooting. It was truly a moment that will live in Seminoles’ history until the end of time.

This situation could have easily turned out tragic for Pritchard and his family. Of course, it was still a traumatic experience, but his perseverance and willpower can’t be denied. The smile that Pritchard flashed while walking was a testament to the incredible spirit that he has inside of him, and it should serve as inspiration for anyone who may be dealing with a challenging matter.

Pritchard has hopes of returning to the field someday, and if that happens, it will be a modern miracle. Regardless, his progress thus far has been unbelievable.
