President Donald Trump and Ambassador Jamieson Greer continue to deliver on their promise to put American producers first and restore fairness to the international trade system.
USTR’s proposal to expand market access for trading partners that purchase more U.S. cotton will increase demand for American-grown cotton and create new opportunities for the farmers, ginners, and shippers who help feed and clothe the world.
After four years of failed economic policy under President Joe Biden, this is exactly the kind of pro-growth, America First trade policy Rural America elected President Trump to deliver.
At the same time, the President’s recent executive order to strengthen customs enforcement will help ensure our trade laws are enforced and prevent foreign bad actors from exploiting loopholes at the expense of American producers.
I am proud provisions of my Securing Accountability in Foreign Entries (SAFE) Act were included in the order, including a requirement that importers maintain a legitimate U.S. presence so they can be held accountable for violating our laws.
Together, these actions will help open new markets for American products, strengthen enforcement against those who game the system, and create a more level playing field for American producers.
I look forward to continuing to work with President Trump and Ambassador Greer to advance policies that support West Texas agriculture, strengthen American competitiveness, and put our producers first.
