Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff entered the week knowing that two of the program’s priority prospects, 2027 five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson and five-star cornerback John Meredith, are set to announce their commitments on Thursday and Friday. While the Aggies are slightly favored to land Henderson, Meredith is currently leaning towards picking the Texas Longhorns.
Still, similar to Notre Dame receiving a late prediction to land Kaden Henderson, the Aggies still have an outside shot to pull off what would be a stunning commitment for what many, including myself, consider the best man coverage corner in the cycle, but given the Longhorns’ success developing top-ranked corners into NFL Draft selections, it’s not shocking that coach Steve Sarkisian has likely won the first battle.
Also in contention to land fellow five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, it’s possible that the Aggies end up losing Dobson to Michigan after his OV, based on recent reports. However, Texas A&M remains in play for both prospects, and I’d be shocked if Elko comes out of both battles empty-handed based on the Aggies’ current No. 1-ranked 2027 class, especially for Dobson, who is still considered an Aggie lean.
On Tuesday, Meredith announced on his X account that Texas, Texas A&M, and Alabama are his finalists, and on Wednesday, the blue-chip defender revealed that he will announce his commitment on Friday, June 17, at 12:00 p.m. I’m still predicting that Texas will earn his commitment, while Elko and his staff will likely maintain a healthy line of communication heading into the fall.
