How long has Antonio Johnson been with the Jaguars?
Johnson was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, with 2026 the final year of his rookie contract. He will be entering free agency in 2027.
Recapping Antonio Johnson’s 2025 season
Johnson had a breakout year in 2025, and could arguably have been named the best safety in the NFL. He was the highest-graded player at his position by PFF’s metrics; he allowed just 202 yards in total the entire season, kept pass-catchers to 9.0 yards or less, and recorded five interceptions, nine passes defensed, and two sacks. Despite this, he largely flew under the radar and was named Jacksonville’s most under-appreciated player.
Looking ahead to 2026 for Antonio Johnson
Johnson will be hitting free agency after the 2026 season, so he will need to build on his 2025 success if he wants to prove his worth, both to the Jaguars and to the league. He will be an experienced leader in a relatively young safety room, and will also be going into a season without having to learn a new playbook.
Johnson’s versatility provides defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile with ample flexibility as he builds out game plans and is able to move Johnson around the defensive backfield as he sees fit. That skill set can help unlock the full potential of this secondary.
The expectations for Johnson will be high, and the only question is whether or not he can elevate his play even more than he did the previous year.
