USC baseball’s Mason Edwards earns first-team All-American honors

It was an incredible season for USC baseball ace Mason Edwards. Last month, Edwards was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year.

Now, he is adding another honor to his collection. Recently, Edwards was named a first-team All-American by the NCBWA.

Edwards finished the season with a record of 8-0 and an impressive 2.07 ERA. He struck out 169 batters, the most by a USC pitcher since Mark Prior in 2001.

Edwards is the first Trojan to earn first-team All-American honors in 11 years. The most recent USC player to do so had been catcher Garrett Stubbs in 2015.

In addition, fellow USC pitcher Grant Govel earned second-team All-American honors. Govel wrapped up the year with a 10-3 record and a 2.87 ERA.

Both Edwards and Govel are viewed as top prospects for this summer’s MLB Draft. USC now faces the challenge of trying to keep one or both of them around for another year.
