A 16-year-old boy who was shot last week in Fort Pierce has died, according to police officials.
St. Lucie County sheriff’s officials were traveling east on Avenue N about 9:15 p.m. June 11, approaching North 24th Street, when they reported hearing multiple gunshots about a block ahead of them, according to sheriff’s officials.
Detectives saw three boys “fleeing the area in different directions,” according to police officials.
As they began to pursue the fleeing boys, they discovered a 16-year-old boy lying on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and positioned on top of a bicycle, according to sheriff’s officials. That wounded teen had a 9mm carbine.
The 16-year-old spent several days in the intensive care unit before the teen was pronounced dead on June 15.
Three youths were taken into custody, according to sheriff’s officials, and a second firearm believed to have been used in the incident was recovered.
Police reported a 16-year-old boy was arrested on attempted homicide, tampering with evidence and unlawful carry of a firearm by a person under 18 years old.
The investigation remained active and ongoing. Anyone with information should contact the Fort Pierce Police Department at 772-462-6800 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at tcwatch.org.
