New daycare under construction in Southwood neighborhood

The Learning Experience is bringing a new facility to the Southwood neighborhood that may be open by the fall.

Construction is underway and slated to be completed by August, said Justin Ghazvini, a commercial development specialist with Premier Commercial Group. It’s located near the corner of Blair Stone Road and Capital Circle Southeast, in front of the Southwood Village shopping center.

“The Learning Experience is a national brand. They’re a franchise that likes to be branded as an early education academy,” Ghazvini said, adding the new 10,000 square-foot facility will include a 5,000 square-foot playground.

The goal, he said, is to be open by the upcoming school year but there’s no hard target date at this time. Ghazvini said the company hopes “to get open sometime in September.”

On its website, The Learning Experience says its approach to early education focuses on the “whole child.”

“This means that in addition to meeting educational standards, our program emphasizes the development of social skills, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving abilities,” the site said.

“The curriculum is all-inclusive, also offering enrichment programs in music, engineering, and fitness at no additional cost, providing great value for families.”

It will be the second daycare near that intersection. Within walking distance is another operation, O2B Kids, which touts its “play-based early childhood education, preschool and after-school programs.” That opened on Blair Stone Road in June 2022.
