The Fowling Warehouse — a bar and entertainment complex on the Hamtramck-Detroit border that specializes in a sport that mixes bowling and football — is closing at the end of the month.
“After righting very hard for the past few years, we have come to the point where it’s just not sustainable to continue business at this location,” reads a statement from owner Chris Hutt. “Many factors have played into this: pre-pandemic expansion, the economy and changes in social behaviors to name a few.”
Hutt assures customers and followers that Fowling the game “is strong and is not going anywhere.”
The last day for Hamtramck’s Fowling Warehouse is June 27. Those with gift cards to cash in should email info@fowlingwarehouse.com to schedule a reservation.
Founded in 2001 by Hutt and his friends while tailgating with friends at the Indy 500, fowling got its own location when the 34,000-square-foot Fowling Warehouse opened in 3901 Christopher in Hamtramck in 2014. The sport branched out with locations in Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Dallas and elsewhere.
Fowling uses 20 regulation-size bowling pins, which are knocked down by throwing a regulation-size football.
