Authorities responded Tuesday morning to a natural gas line leak in Grosse Pointe Farms, officials said.
“This morning, DTE Energy was alerted to a potential natural gas leak on Moran Road in Grosse Pointe Farms,” company officials said in a statement earlier Tuesday. “Our crews are currently investigating.”
Later, the company reported that a third party struck a DTE natural gas line while digging along Moran Road in Grosse Pointe Farms.
“At DTE Energy, the safety of our customers and communities is our top priority,” the company said. “Our crews quickly responded and stopped the leak caused by the third-party contractor.
“DTE reminds everyone that they must call MISS DIG at 811 before any digging project to learn where gas and other utility lines are buried. It’s for everyone’s safety, and it’s the law.”
City officials issued an alert Tuesday morning that said the leak was found in the area of Moran Road and Kercheval Avenue.
Media reports said the area was evacuated.
DTE officials urged the public to use caution around gas leaks.
“Safety is DTE’s top priority, and we remind everyone to follow these steps if you smell or suspect a natural gas leak: leave the area, call 911, and then call DTE’s leak hotline at 800-947-5000.”
