USC baseball gets set for second winner-take-all game of postseason

On Saturday, the USC baseball team fell 4-0 to North Carolina in Game 2 of the Chapel Hill Super Regional. With the win over the Trojans, UNC evened the series at one game apiece and forced a decisive Game 3 on Sunday.

This USC team is no stranger to playing in winner-take-all games. Just this past Monday, the Trojans defeated Texas A&M in the deciding game of the College Station Regional. It was that victory that sent USC to Chapel Hill, where the Trojans are making their first appearance in a super regional in 21 years.

Now, for the second time in seven days, USC will play in a winner-take-all contest. This time, the stakes are even higher, with the program’s first trip to the College World Series since 2001 on the line.

Once again, the Trojans will have to win the decisive game on the road. After quieting the crowd on Monday night in College Station, USC will look to do the same Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill.

In sports, and especially in baseball, one game is an extremely small sample size. North Carolina is likely the better team, but the Trojans are more than capable of winning if a few things go their way.

First pitch of the decisive game between USC and North Carolina is set for 12:00 p.m. Pacific time/3:00 p.m. Eastern time Sunday on ESPN.
