The Los Angeles Lakers are about to begin what could turn out to be a very consequential offseason. They’re projected to have tens of millions of dollars of salary cap space, as well as two future first-round draft picks to offer in a trade, and those resources could allow them to start to truly build a championship-caliber team around Luka Doncic.
Los Angeles will also have the No. 25 pick in this year’s draft. They have been working out prospects in this year’s draft class, including Trey Kaufman-Renn, a forward from Purdue University.
He stands 6-foot-9 and weighs 230 pounds and slots in as a power forward, and he’s regarded as an intelligent player who has ample strength. In four years with the Boilermakers, he averaged 11.3 points and 5.2 rebounds a game, and he peaked as a junior by averaging 20.1 points on 59.5% shooting and 6.5 rebounds a game.
However, Kaufman-Renn’s production dipped to 14.2 points per game this past season. He can hit from the perimeter, but he rarely shot 3-pointers in college. He lacks athleticism and quickness, and with his 24th birthday coming this August, some may feel he has limited upside.
He could end up going in the second round of the draft or becoming an undrafted free agent.
