Residents invited to explore local streams through hands-on events

Summit County residents are invited to family-friendly events this summer that involve looking for signs of life that indicate clean streams.

The events are sponsored by the Surface Water Management District, in partnership with Summit Soil and Water Conservation District and local communities and park systems, the office of Summit County Engineer Alan Brubaker announced.

Staff will guide attendees through the sampling process as they look for macroinvertebrates, small aquatic insects and organisms, that serve as key indicators of stream health and water quality.

These events will also highlight actions residents can take to help protect streams, including reducing fertilizer use, picking up pet waste and growing native plants.

Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately and be prepared to get wet.

No registration is needed for the following events;
