FSU baseball catcher to enter transfer portal

FSU baseball catcher Hunter Carns has entered the transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Carns had two productive seasons for the Seminoles and is eligible for the 2026 MLB Draft.

Carns, who rotated between catcher and designated hitter, started 49 games for the Seminoles and played in 51 in 2026. He finished the year hitting .303 with six home runs, 11 doubles, and 32 RBI. The Jacksonville product had a .411 on-base percentage and a .401 slugging percentage. He had 19 errors behind the plate, recording a .972 fielding percentage

He entered the season as one of the top catchers in the ACC and a potential breakout candidate for the Seminoles. While he improved, he did not take as big a step as expected and will have two seasons of eligibility at his next stop. He was one of the top catchers in the 2024 recruiting class, and it was a major win for FSU to get him to Tallahassee.

Carns played in 40 games as a freshman in 2025, hitting .286 with six home runs, eight doubles, and 15 RBI. The 6-foot, 200-pounder finished with a .379 on-base percentage and a .481 slugging percentage in 133 at-bats.

FSU will have to replace its top two ctachers from last season with Carns and Nathan Cmeyla, both departing the program. While FSU has Mookie Rodriguez and Kaden Frommelt on the roster, neither has played in a game for the Seminoles.

Carns is the seventh FSU player to enter the transfer portal and the second on Friday. He joins pitchers Jake Echols and Manny Lantigua, first baseman Charlie Buckles, outfielder Chase Williams, and infielders Kelvyn Paulino Jr. and Noah Sheffield. The Seminoles are expected to be very active in the transfer portal.
