A look at top moments from 2025-26 school year in El Paso HS sports

The 2025-26 season high school sports season in El Paso was a succesful one acroos the board for several teams and individuals.

Here is a look at many achievements that stood out.

Eastwood girls wrestling team wins state title

The Eastwood High School girls wrestling team won the Texas UIL state title in Class 6A for the second straight year.

Eastwood scored 82.5 points on Saturday night, Feb. 14, ahead of Lewisville Flower Mound with 71 points. Eastwood also won district and regional titles this year. It was Eastwood’s fourth state title since 2020.

Cydney Davis captures another state wrestling title

Bel Air High School senior wrestler Cydney Davis was named the 2026 Class 5A Girls Wrestler of the Year by the Texas High School Coaches Association.

Davis won the 155-pound state title in Class 5A to become a three-time state champ. She defeated Londyn Jefferson of Frisco Heritage in the finals. Davis was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in Class 5A.

Davis helped the Highlanders to a third-place team finish at the state tournament and was also the district and regional champion this season. She finished her high school record with a 193-3 record.

Americas and Burges boys soccer teams make UIL state semifinals

Americas and Burges both had phenomenal seasons. Burges reached the state Final Four in Class 5A, Division 2 and Americas reached the state Final Four in Division 1.

Burges defeated Del Valle, Wichita Falls Memorial, Trimble Tech and OD Wyatt in the playoffs before losing to Frisco Wakeland in the state semifinals via penalty kicks.

In the playoffs, Americas beat Canutillo, Lubbock Monterey, Colleyville Heritage and Aledo before falling 1-0 to Waknut Grove in the state semifinals.

Burges boys basketball team makes regional final

The Mustangs had a sensational postseason, defeating Hanks, Amarillo Palo Duro and Fort Worth Brewer before losing to Mansfield Summit in the regional finals.

Americas baseball team reaches regional final

The Trailblazers had an amazing journey through the Class 5A, Division 1 playoffs. Americas defeated El Paso High, Abilene High and Birdville before losing to Aledo in the regional finals. It was the first time in school history that Americas reached a regional championship.

High track and field success

El Paso track and field athletes shined at the UIL state track and field meet.

Coronado tennis player Mackenzie Baptist finished 2nd at state

The junior had a solid season, earning a runner-up showing in Class 6A girls singles at the UIL state tournament. Baptist also claimed district and regional titles.

3 El Paso football teams win big playoof games

Parkland softball player Samantha Martinez reaches milestone

Parkland senior softball player Samantha Martinez reached the 700 strikeouts mark in her career this past season and also helped the Matadors reach the regional semifinals in the Class 5A, Division 2 UIL playoffs.

Franklin football player Ernie Powers earns honor

Powers was named to the 2025 Whataburger Super Team in Texas after rushing for 3,341 yards and 52 touchdowns. He helped Franklin to eight wins and a spot in the Class 6A playoffs.

Eastlake volleyball player Giselle Gandara earns national honor

Gandara was named to the MaxPreps Freshman All-American volleyball team.

The 5-9 outside hitter had 427 kills, 378 digs, 66 blocks and 53 aces for the Falcons, who finished 36-5 and won two playoff matches this past season. She is one of five Texas players on the 20-person team.

Socorro High School swimmer makes history

Alvaro Avila became the first ever swimmer from Socorro High School to qualify for the UIL state championships. Avila qualified in the 50 and 100-yard events. He finished 16th in the 50-yard final with a time of 21.30 seconds and was 15th in thje 100-yard finals with a time of 46.69 seconds. He won the 50-yard freestyle at the UIL regional championships with a personal-best time of 20.91 seconds.
