After defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games, the San Antonio Spurs advanced to the 2026 NBA Finals, where they’ll face the New York Knicks, who’ve won 10 consecutive playoff games.
The finals will feature two former Warriors players, both representing the Spurs: former No. 7 overall pick Harrison Barnes and Lindy Waters III. On the Knicks’ side, they are coached by Mike Brown, who spent six seasons under Steve Kerr as an assistant coach from 2016 to 2022.
That said, who is the last former Warriors alum to win an NBA title?
Most recent Golden State Warriors alum to win an NBA championship
Well, since the Warriors last earned a championship over the Boston Celtics in 2022, only one former Warrior has gone on to win a ring with another franchise. This would be former Warriors point guard Ish Smith. Smith played for 13 NBA teams during his 14-year career, with one of them being the Warriors. Out of all his many stops, he stayed in Golden State the shortest amount of time, playing in just six games for the franchise. In those games, Smith averaged 4.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 10.5 minutes of play. It wasn’t until 11 years after his time in the Bay Area that Smith would win a title, doing so in 2023 with the Denver Nuggets.
